Ennobled Herd Book Points. Goats entered under their ABGA registration numbers and presenting their Certificates of Registration will be eligible to earn points for their actual placing in the show as described “Criteria for Ennoblement of a Boer Goat.”
6. GOAT OWNERSHIP. Goats must be owned by an individual or previous existing farm at least 30 days prior to the opening date of the Show. Certificates of registry must be presented to the Show Committee for examination and must show transfer of ownership to the exhibitor 30 days or more prior to the opening of the Show.
7. ENTRIES. Each exhibitor may show no more than two animals in each class with the exception of the market wether classes. In the market wether classes up to four animals may be shown per exhibitor. No animals shall be changed from one class to another after closing date unless it is ineligible for the class in which it is entered.
SUBSTITUTIONS. Substitutions are allowed in the same class only and must have same ownership as the original entry. Substitutions will be made at check-in.
8. ELIGIBILITY OF ANIMALS. Market wethers and commercial does do not need to be registered or tattooed. All Boer percentage and Full Blood Boer Goats must be registered in the Herdbook of a recognized association before the show. Recognized associations include ABGA, Canadian Boer Goat Association, International Boer Goat Association, and the USBGA. The original registration certificate of ownership must be produced at the request of the Show Chairperson. A stamped duplicate or faxed duplicate application showing the date received by the association is acceptable for animals under three (3) months of age. Animals must be registered in the name of the exhibitor and must have been owned by the exhibitor for at least 30 days prior to show date. No tattooing allowed after unloading. If the animal has a microchip as its permanent identification, the exhibitor is responsible for providing a microchip reader.
9. COMPUTING AGES. Birth dates, as listed on the Certificate of Registration, will be used to determine the class divisions. The show date will be the base date in computing all ages. Take the show date and count back to the birth date of the goat to determine the age and the class of the animal. For example, for a December 1 show, an animal with a January 1 birth date would be eleven (11) months old and would show in a kid class.
10. DISQUALIFICATION. Any goat showing any pronounced defect or abnormality, such as a weak constitution, unthrifty condition, overshot jaw or undershot jaw, abnormal abscesses, will be barred from showing in any of the classes. Illegible tattoos or tattoos inconsistent with registration will result in disqualification. Any doe over 24 months of age that has not kidded and cannot prove a current pregnancy will not be allowed to show. No artificial coloring will be allowed.
11. FITTING. All goats must be fitted and clipped prior to arrival at the show. Fitting will be left up to the discretion of the exhibitor. Only minor clipping will be allowed on the fairgrounds. No painting, powdering or artificial coloring is allowed.
All market wethers must be uniformly clipped with 3/8” length of hair or less above the knee and hock joints, to include the head, excluding the tail, prior to arrival on the grounds.
12. CLASSES. All animals except market wethers and commercial does must be registered purebred, Full Blood or percentage blood Boer goats. Percentage doe classes are for goats 50% to 88%. Purebred/Full Blood classes are for does that are 15/16 (93.75%) and higher and bucks that are 31/32 (96.87%) and higher. Bucks 96.86% and lower are not eligible to be shown. Health papers, registration papers (if applicable), and tags will be checked at this time and substitutions will be completed. Weathers will be weighed-in as they arrive. When all exhibitors have checked in, changes will be incorporated and a class list will be printed and posted in the barn. Tattoos will be checked at ring-side after show placement.
